Our Enterprise setup now has a custom function that converts Word documents into Enterprise articles, eliminating TextWrangler from the process.

The basic instructions

  1. Create or open a dossier in the appropriate brand.
  2. In the dossier, click the Upload button at the top of the screen.
  3. Select the Word document and set its initial status to Raw Text. The status is very important to this process.
  4. Wait five minutes and refresh. The status will change to Draft Text when the process is complete. The blue Word icon should turn into the normal article icon, which has a pink A.

Formatting

The script is designed to work with typical Plate Word styles—i.e., story description in the first paragraph, etc.

Be sure to format your Word document according to the following guidelines before you upload. The script works best without empty line breaks between paragraphs.

The converter will do some basic processing as follows:

  • The second paragraph goes into the headline component.
  • The third paragraph goes into the deck or intro component.
  • The fourth paragraph goes into the byline component if it starts with "by" or "By".
  • Everything else in the Word document goes into the body component. Note that all paragraphs placed into other components will also be in the body component, so you can delete, cut or paste as necessary.
  • Paragraphs in ALL CAPS will be styled as subheads.

We are currently running version 2.0 of this custom script. At present, it does not maintain formatting, such as italics, on individual words. Our developer is looking to add that functionality to future versions.
